The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) 5-digit station
identifier.
99999 = a 3 or 4 letter AIRWAYS-CALLSIGN is present in
characters 6-9.
AIRWAYS-CALLSIGN characters 6-9 A4
A 3 or 4 character airways callsign, or blanks. Two com-
binations of WMO identifiers and callsign are possible.
A. WMO ID is present in characters 1-5 so blanks will
appear in AIRWAYS-CALLSIGN.
B. A 99999 in WMO-STATION-ID indicates a 3 or 4 digit
AIRWAYS-CALLSIGN will be present.
GMT-DATE characters 10-15 I6
the Greenwich Mean Time data date.
YYMMDD = year, month, day.
GMT-ZULU-TIME characters 16-17 I2
Prior to September 1982, the Greenwich Mean (ZULU) time of
report expressed in whole hours "Z".
From September 1982 on, character 16 is hour divided by 3,
and character 17 is a flag that is always equal to 9, e.g.
79 means 7x3 for hour 21. There are unexplained exceptions
to this explanation. See hour table below.
AIR-TEMPERATURE characters 18-20 I3
The air temperature at the time of the report. Range -99
to 199 degrees Celsius (whole degrees).
SNOW-DEPTH characters 21-25 I5
The depth of snow at time of report. Range 00000 to 99999
whole millimeters.
WATER-EQUIV- characters 26-30 I5
SNOW-OR-ICE The water equivalent of snow and/or ice at time of report.
Range 00000 to 99999 whole millimeters.
SNOWFALL-AMOUNT characters 31-35 I5
The snowfall amount received at time of report. Range
00000 to 99999 whole millimeters.
